We Are in This Together: Talking About Mental Health, Reducing Stigma and Promoting Hope Online
After unexpectedly being diagnosed with bipolar disorder at age seventeen, Erin Callinan’s life was turned upside down. This new and un-welcomed diagnosis left her drowning in the abyss of mental illness, leading to hospitalizations, developing an eating disorder, and engaging in self-harming behaviors. After learning to accept and reframe her perspective of what living with a mental illness meant, Erin began to encourage open conversations about mental health and promote messages of hope and recovery. She authored and published a book, joined the mental health advocacy community and now serves as the Executive Director of Mental Health America of Arizona. Attendees of this virtual event will gain knowledge, tools and encouragement and will learn more about:
- Recognizing signs of mental health challenges through early identification.
- Screening, intervention and advocacy strategies that promote safety, wellness and autonomy.
- Understanding the mental health continuum and the importance of early intervention
- How to promote stigma reduction techniques and enhance healthy help-seeking behaviors
- Tips for talking about mental health from a recovery-focused and person-first perspective.
