America in Times of Conflict: From Gila River to Iwo Jima, the Untold Story of Ira Hayes In-Person
Ira Hamilton Hayes was a Pima (Akimel O'Odham) Native American and an elite United States Marine who was one of the six servicemen immortalized in the iconic photograph of the Iwo Jima flag raising during World War II. Learn about his untold story, how his experience brought him national fame, but also led to tragedy. Urban Giff, a member of the Ira Hayes American Legion Post, will present this program. This program is supported by the Arizona State Library, Archives & Public Records, and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
